Frequently asked questions

When can I get my rota for the next specialty?

You should contact the relevant Service Manager of that specialty. If you do not know who this is members of the Medical Staffing Department, or Medical Education Department should be able to advise you.

I have already done A&E/Medicine/Elderly/etc in my F2 year, can I swap that part of my rotation?

No. You may be repeating the specialty, but will be performing at a higher level with a different end result. Changes will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.

What are the guidelines on study leave during the ST1 / 2 / 3 years?

The guidelines adopted by the Medway VTS are those developed by the KSS Deanery. Full details can be found by accessing the Deanery website or looking in the Medway VTS Handbook.

In brief for the Medway VTS scheme the process for gaining study leave is as follows:

  • The objectives for the leave request should be discussed with your educational supervisor or clinical educator. If the ES or CE supports your request the study leave request form should be completed and signed by your ES or CE.
  • You should then approach your departmental consultant if on hospital rotation and gain permission to take leave.
  • If you have gained approval from your ES or CE and Consultant the study leave form should be sent to a programme director for final approval.
  • The aims / objectives and intended outcomes should form part of your personal development plan.
  • A copy of the form should be sent to the Medical Education Manager at the Post graduate Centre, Medway Maritime Hospital.
